November 2018

Well, we received cambios this week and right now I am writing from ..... IQUIQUE. That is because I did not leave. So it will be close to a year that I have been in almost the same area. Elder Mayfield left to go to Copíapo last night. So I said goodbye to my 2nd son and received news that I am staying to have a 3rd SON!!! So I am stoked to train again. Really I learned so much from these 2 past cambios. The only thing is, this is my 3rd sector and I will be completing a year and a half at the end of this transfer. Its looking like I may only have one more left if the pattern continues.
Our week was super dope. We baptized Juan who is 10. This kid is super smart. He is able to pretty much remember everything that he reads in the Book of Mormon and is coming to church on his own on his bike. His family doesnt have much interest but we are going to focus on them and make it happen.
Fun experience during the last week. The streets were unusually super empty on Tuesday and Wednesday so we were only able to make 10-15 contacts that day and 95% of them lived outside the sector so we only picked up a few new amigos but then the next 2 days were awesome! God lets us go through the hard days to prove ourselves dignos for the good days.
It is getting to be pretty hot out here so we are cracking out the hats.
Also super fun story. On Thursday we were getting ready to go to bed when Elder Mayfield sees something scuttle by his foot. He then proceeds to pull out his desk and squish a cockroach the size of my big toe. Now cockroaches are really common here but tiny. This thing was HUGE (See Video) We had a good nervous laugh (because who knows if there are more hiding) Needless to say we are buyin more bug poison.

November 5, 2018

Well this was definitely a great week that we had. We were able to see and verify with all the cool people that we got to meet the last week. We weren't able to find a ton of people but that is because Chile had a 4 day weekend for Halloween and Dia de Los Muertos. There were a lot of little kids going around and trick or treating but I have to say that Halloween is better in the states. The candy here just isn't to par, but that's okay, we still enjoyed receiving some. I went as my companion and my companion as me. (We switched nametags) Actually, I went on intercambio that day but it was totally worth it because we got our interview baptismal done with our friend Hans.
He is so cool and a big testimony builder of how the Lord can prepare people. 3 weeks ago he was drinking and smoking and landed on the front door of a friend who happens to be a member. The friend tells Hans he can't keep doing this and invites him to church. Well, that's where we met him and from that point, he has been just great.
Also, I got my Christmas package on Halloween which is a step up from last year when I got it just in time for Valentine's day So thanks to the fam for the presents and the Extra Toasty Cheezits

October 31 -November 6, 2017 Week 12

Hey Guys,        Transfers were this week and I found out that I am going to .............................. .......stay.  Yup I am going remain here in Arica for another 6 weeks with Elder Campos.  I am actually pretty happy about it because the work is really picking up over here.  We were able to baptize a super awesome family of 4 this past  saturday  and we have another family of 3 to baptize  this Saturday .  The Lord is blessing the work over here and I get to be a part of it.  Sorry I don´t have a lot of time to write a whole lot, but I do want yall to know that the work is true and that families can be together forever.  One of our converts received the Priesthood this  Sunday and it was really cool for me because it is the next step for him to salvation and to be sealed with his family.  We also were able to find some new people and also the ward is becoming super supportive.  We just need mo...

Oct. 3 -Oct. 10 Week 8

Hello Everyone       I have had a great week and I hope it was the same for ya'll.  I completed 3 months in the mission last week and to celebrate I ate a delicious churasco.    Hoy día we went up to the Morro that is here in Arica and that was just fantastic.  It had some great views but I also realized how brown it is here.  There really is a limited amount of green.      I learned a lot about patience this week with myself.  I have noticed that I am still in the beginning of the mission and there is time.  I received a really personal impression from the Spirit during this week and that has given me a lot of comfort and peace.  My testimony of the fact that God knows us and helps us as we strive to develop and learn more has grown so much since coming out.  It isn´t always easy, but when it is easy I get complacent, and that is not why we are here.  We are here to grow and progress!  We ha...

January 8 - January 14, 2019

Well, the thing is that the weeks just pass by so quickly that I really honestly don't remember a whole lot.  Something cool this week is that we have a new schedule where we eat lunch at 1 instead of 2 and we do practices and study from 2-3 and then idioma ( language study) from 3-330.  It makes everything flow a lot smoother and I like it.  We found 56 new investigators this week. but only 2 came to church :(  Thats the hardest part to get people to fulfill on their commitments.  But it is part of the fun.     I also am now able to write a little bit more in my journal.  I had an interview with Presidente this week and it was really good.  Elder Baines is super good, and we get along well. We decided to hike the anchor today for preparation day.  You can't really see it in any of the photos. It's like the Y of Antofagasta but it really only took like 30 minutes to get up there.
